About the Race
The Fool's Gold 100 is Georgia's first and only 100 mile mountain bike race, brought to you by the race director
of the largest and most fun 24 hour mountain bike race in the Southeast, the BURN 24 Hour Challenge! Fool's Gold 100 will be the 6th race of the 2009 National Ultra Endurance Mountain Bike Race Series. Expect lots of singletrack with a few gravel road grunts. Be prepared to ride hard..and drink a few brews. With the low entry great schwag, all of the essential amenities (i.e. optional lodging with meals & beer) all weekend, and
cash payout for the Open Men/Womens class in the 100 miler, we think this one will be on your race calendar for good!
The guys from Sweetwater Brewing Co. will again be giving a case of Sweetwater 420 to the first racer to cross the finish line at 4:20pm...this could be a good sprint to watch.
...and,last but certainly not least...the guys from Terrapin Beer will, once again, be sponsoring the Turtle Award, a case of Terrapin brew for the last person to finish the 50 miler and the 100 miler. DFL never sounded so good, eh?

Cash payout and prize distribution is scaled based on the size of the class. More racers in the class = more total payout to that class.
There will be SAG stops for both the 50 mile and the 100 mile race. 100 mile racers will pass through the Start/Finish after Lap 1 and head out for another lap of the same 50 mile course. That mid-way point at the Start/Finish is NOT a supported SAG stop but you are free to leave supplies there (i.e. cooler, spare parts--anything except another bike). There will be a designated area for you to leave your stuff before the race starts in the morning.
*Race Entry Fees cannot be refunded. $15 fee applies for transferring entries. Lodging fees can only be refunded until August 1. Register early and save money! Registration closes August 1 2009. THERE IS NO ONSITE REGISTRATION THIS YEAR.
A waiver must be turned in Friday night before you can get your race number and bag. You can send a friend up on Friday night to pick your race stuff up as long as they bring your signed waiver. You are responsible for getting your race stuff from your friend and getting your SAG bags to us by 6:15 am on Saturday morning. There is no number pick-up on the morning of the race.

FAQ
Is there any tent-camping available? There is no tent camping available at Camp Wahsega (the Race Start/Finish), however there is primitive camping in the national forest. Keep in mind, that you only get the onsite hot showers, beds, and the meals if you select the Onsite Bunkhouse Lodging option when you register.
Do you need volunteers? Yes! The volunteers make this race...we need your help! Please contact namrita@55nineperformance.com if you would like to volunteer.
Are Pets Allowed? No pets are not allowed at Camp Wahsega during the event. Pets are not permitted in the bunkhouses. Pets ARE permitted at SAG stops, and anywhere offsite from Camp Wahsega. Sorry about this, we love dogs too.
What are the rules for support? Racers can only be supported by other racers or support personal at aid stations. There is no support allowed from non- racers or friends and family jumping from aid station to aid station. This rule is in place to
limit a potential traffic overload on the Forest system roads. If you would like to support someone you can support everyone!!!
SAG Stations and Drop Bags When you check-in on Friday, you will receive 3 large ziploc bags in which you can place your personal items that you want to send to up to 3 SAG stops. SAG bags must be dropped in the designated spot by 6:30am on race day if you want it to make it to the station(s). You are not required to use the SAG bags. We will have other products (water, gatorade, and assorted snacks (PB&J, bananas, cookies, etc.) for you at the stations, as well. SAG bags will return with the SAG volunteers when their shift is over and you have already passed through. They will get them back ASAP, but keep in mind, some of you may not get your SAG bag back until several hours after you finish. We will do a better job of getting the 50 mile racer SAG bags back early this year! Reminder: The mid-way (50 mile point) is not a supported SAG for the 100 mile racers, but there will be a designated spot for you to leave coolers or supplies (NO SPARE BIKES ALLOWED!)
Do I need to be present on Friday to check-in? Yes. There is no check-in on Saturday AM, due to the early AM start on race day. You are free to come up on Friday anytime from 3-9pm to sign your waiver, pick up your race number, race bag, and SAG drop bags. You can drop your full SAG bags on Saturday by 6:15am.
Will I need lights? We have cutoffs so everyone is off the course by dark. If you are planning on cutting it close, it would be wise to send a light to the last SAG stop just in case you have a mechanical in the last 8 miles of the course and need light. The cutoffs are as follows: SAG 2- must arrive by 5pm; SAG 3- must arrive by 7pm; SAG 4- anyone going out of SAG 4 past 7pm MUST HAVE LIGHTS. The cutoff at SAG 4 is 8pm. Anyone not making a cutoff at SAG 2, 3, or 4 will be directed on an alternate route to the Finish Line.
